The unintended expatriate blogger behind Maple Beacon Forge

Hi, I'm Liam
I'm a project manager. I'm a parent. I'm an expatriate living in San Francisco, United States.
A couple of years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to United States wasn’t on the grand plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Everyday chores felt more daunting than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Maple Beacon Forge
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in United States.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Real-world insights from living in United States
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site is not:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in San Francisco or anywhere in United States, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Liam
